Halfway

Co-created with : Michelle L Senteio for the Looking Glass Factory

Role : 2D Art & Animation, Storyboarding

Developed with : Unity 3D, Looking Glass.

Halfway is an interactive narrative experience designed to explore the storytelling potential of the device, the Looking Glass. The story is between a girl and a fish, who try to be friends with each other, yet need to learn to realize the differences between themselves and to compromise.

The art is drawn with colored pencils on rough paper for the texture, and the coloring and animation is done in Photoshop. Assembled in Unity.

I created the art and storyboard for this experience.

Game Art

The budget of this project can support about 50 hours of art work. After creating the storyboard, which is 43 panels, I roughly have the sense that each panel can only use more or less 1 hour to make art for. To try to create the best look yet able to fit in the production plan, I decided to have the visual elements drawn in individual pieces, and assemble in Unity to create movements and color changes, instead of making them with animation frames. For the visual style, I chose a hand drawing style with textures, and keep the coloring simple - so no matter how the pieces are combined, the scene will look cohesive.
